Nyriad and ThinkParQ Announce Partnership to Certify GPU-accelerated Storage
San Jose, CA, March 27, 2018 — Nyriad and ThinkParQ announced a partnership today at the GPU Technology Conference (GTC 2018) to develop a certification programme for high performance, resilient storage systems that combine BeeGFS with NSULATE, Nyriad’s solution for GPU-accelerated storage-processing.
The certification programme will support storage vendors efforts to bring next-generation storage systems to their customers that utilise NVIDIA GPUs for high integrity data storage.
ThinkParQ is the company behind the popular BeeGFS file system, which is growing quickly in the high performance computing and high-performance data analysis markets where Lustre has traditionally been deployed. Nyriad and Advanced HPC recently announced Orion, the first storage server that uses Nyriad’s NSULATE technology to store data in parallel across 100 devices. The server has been adopted by Oregon State University’s Computational Biology Research Centre (CBRC) and will be one of the first reference systems certified under the programme.
NSULATE complements BeeGFS to enable high performance, scale out parallel file systems with data resilience beyond RAID. NSULATE enables high performance from BeeGFS and XFS even in the face of a large number of simultaneous drive failures, critical for maintaining I/O throughput when dealing with extremely large datasets typical in HPC.
Nyriad CEO Matthew Simmons said, “As the demand for high performance computing expands beyond R&D, more enterprises need the performance and capabilities of parallel file systems without sacrificing data protection. The testing and certification of storage systems wishing to achieve both high performance and reliability is critical for our customers.”
ThinkParQ CEO Frank Herold stated, “We believe this is the beginning of a fantastic partnership between two innovative software companies with similar roots in the high performance computing community. BeeGFS was developed at the Fraunhofer Center for High Performance Computing, while Nyriad’s NSULATE was originally developed from a partnership with the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research in Australia. We want to bring our expertise to the wider storage industry by creating new standards for performance and reliability suitable for the coming generation of exascale systems.”
The certification programme will be available to systems integrators and component manufacturers looking to develop GPU-optimised storage offerings to their customers or collaborate on reference systems.
Nyriad is an exascale software company specialising in advanced data storage solutions for big data and high performance computing. Nyriad initially developed a GPU-accelerated storage technology for the Square Kilometre Array, the world's largest computing project. The sheer scale of the problem led Nyriad to a breakthrough in computing density where parallel computing and distributed storage-processing become the same thing. Nyriad’s first product, NSULATE, is now available from selected distributors. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in being a distribution or marketing partner. About ThinkParQ thinkparq.com
ThinkParQ was founded as a spin-off from the Fraunhofer Center for High Performance Computing (HPC) by the key people behind BeeGFS to bring the file system to all organizations and industries which have a need for fast and robust storage, including everything from smaller sites up to the largest enterprise systems. As of 2014, ThinkParQ is responsible for support, provides consulting and individual presentations on demand, organizes events, attends exhibitions and works together with system integrators in creating turn-key solutions.
ThinkParQ and Fraunhofer internally cooperate closely to deliver the well-known high quality support services and to drive further development and optimization of BeeGFS for today’s and tomorrow’s performance-critical systems.
